What you left behind(Poem)

(allanswart)

What you left behind
By Ayomide Ogundele

The way you left was unexpected
Everything you left behind a wreck
Your kids distraught

The house you lived in a mess
Scattered clothes lay around on the floor
dishes stained orange from the jollof rice you love to cook in the sink
The pot half full of sweet jollof rice

The comforting smell of
Dolce and Gabbana light blue
Embedded into your clothes
Slowly fading away

The bed you slept in wreaching of rotten flesh
Tear streaked faces of family members
I am where you were but you are not here

You were to young
3 kids left behind, waiting for you to come back…
