Memory
By Ayomide Ogundele

Life gave me memory
The memory of a face
My mother’s face

It was given to me to store an image in my brain
To cherish
To keep
To remember

The dimple on her cheek
The sparkle of her eyes

These things meant not to forget
As life gets busy,
Memories start to blend into each other and fade away

First her smile
Then her eyes
Slowly fading away in my head

I try to remember but my memory fails me

How will i describe what she looks like to my kids?
How can I picture you in times of distress?
